New Heads of J-PAL South Asia

J-PAL welcomes our new heads of J-PAL South Asia, Clara Delavallade and Thomas Bossuroy. They bring extensive research and policy experiences to their positions and a commitment to making South Asia a center of excellence in evidence based policy. J-PAL South Asia has eight projects in six different states of India, addressing issues including education, health, governance, and the environment.   

Clara has a Ph.D. in Economics from University of Paris 1 Sorbonne / Paris School of Economics. Prior to joining J-PAL, Clara was a lecturer in economics and development at University of Paris 1 Sorbonne, and founded and ran an NGO dedicated to capacity building services for women’s associations in West Africa. She has also managed and advised field research projects across Africa for the United Nations Development Program and Transparency International.

Thomas has a Ph.D. in development economics from the Paris School of Economics. For the past four years, he worked as a researcher in Developpement Institutions and Analyses de Long Terme (DIAL) and has served as a consultant to the French Development Agency and Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) on research projects throughout Africa.


The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) in the MIT Department of Economics is dedicated to fighting poverty by ensuring that policy decisions are based on scientific evidence. We run, promote the use of, and disseminate the results of randomized evaluations of poverty programs.
